The Orchard Behind The Church : Ron, Angela, Trevor & Brian Male

….a family love affair with apples & orchards…

“We got the orchard in 1984 and we have run others down towards Thorney, now we just tend 8 acres.”
“There’s photos here of Trevor & Brian, our sons, taken in March 1997 planting out 2 ½ acres of new trees.”
“We do apples because we love it. We visit the orchard every day, in all seasons. It’s a family team with our two sons.”
“We love every aspect – the blossoms, pruning and harvesting. Angela looks after the dispatches.
We answered an advert in the Western Daily press back in 1984 from someone looking to buy cider apples. We were the first to answer and the cider maker has bought them ever since.”
“We grow Dabinetts, Michelin, Brown’s and Kingston Blacks. Our apples go to Wilkins of Wedmore – the photo of the bags of apples is for them, since they only take apples in bags. Wilcox of Cheddar take others and our single variety Kingston Black go to Burrow Hill Cider.”
“We have two rows of Bramleys which we sell separately. Our apples are supplied very clean, being run over a grader with Angela picking out rotten apples, twigs and leaves. Our apples are sought after because of our attention to detail.
Our orchards bring us joy – daily, and we consider ourselves very lucky.”
